Victorian Conservatory Roofing: Glazed or Tiled?

We understand that every homeowner has unique priorities for their Victorian conservatory. That's why we offer two exceptional roofing systems to suit your needs. For those who crave a light-filled, sun-drenched sun-drenched space with a classic feel, the Ultraframe glazed roof system is the perfect choice. This innovative system features high-performance double glazing, ensuring excellent thermal insulation while maximizing natural light. You can further personalize your experience with a variety of glazing tints, allowing you to control the level of sunlight and heat entering your conservatory.

Alternatively, the industry-leading Supalite roofing system utilises lightweight, insulating tiles with exceptional thermal performance to create a comfortable space you can enjoy all year round, regardless of the season. Don't worry about sacrificing light – although this is a solid roof system, Supalite roofs can be enhanced with Sky Vista Glass Panels, strategically placed to bring in natural light while maintaining the benefits of a solid roof.

What is a Victorian style conservatory?

A Victorian-style conservatory, sometimes known as a Victorian sun-room, is a classic and elegant design inspired by period architecture. It typically features a bay-fronted layout with either three or five angled facets, creating a rounded appearance.

The roof is steeply pitched and often finished with ornate ridge detailing, making it a popular choice for traditional homes looking to add character and charm.

What is the difference between a Victorian and Edwardian conservatory?

The main difference between Victorian and Edwardian conservatories is their shape and overall style. Victorian conservatories feature a bay-fronted, rounded design with ornate detailing, giving them a more decorative, traditional look.

Edwardian conservatories, on the other hand, have a square or rectangular layout with a simpler, more streamlined appearance. This shape is ideal for maximising internal space, making Edwardian styles a practical choice for those looking to create a spacious and functional living area.

FAQs

Your Questions Answered

We know that choosing the right home improvement is never easy, so we’ve listed some of the most common questions about conservatories to help you make the right choice.

Ask Us

What's the difference between a conservatory and an orangery?

Conservatories are known for their predominantly glazed roofs, allowing for maximum natural light and a connection to the outdoors. Orangeries, on the other hand, often incorporate brick pillars for a more permanent feel and typically feature a solid roof with integrated windows instead of a glazed roof.

Do conservatories require a lot of maintenance?

No, our conservatories are designed for low maintenance. The high-quality materials used are easy to clean and maintain, ensuring your beautiful new space looks its best for years to come.

Do conservatories need planning permission?

Usually not. Planning permission is not needed to install a 3-metre-long conservatory on a semi-detached property and a 4-metre-long conservatory on a detached home. If you do need planning permission, the team at Tyneside Home Improvements will organise it on your behalf.
