FAQs

Your Questions Answered

We know that choosing the right home improvement is never easy, so we’ve listed some of the most common questions about our orangeries to help you make the right choice.

Got a specific question? Ask our experts today!

Do orangeries need planning permission?

Usually not. If, however, you do require planning permission for your orangery installation, the team at Tyneside Home Improvements will arrange this with the local authority on your behalf.

How long will it take to install an orangery?

Orangeries usually take several weeks to install. The time it takes to install an orangery will depend on the level of complexity of the project and the amount of groundwork needed.

What is the difference between an orangery and a conservatory?

An orangery is a more substantial, room-like extension with a solid roof around the edges and a central glazed area, while a conservatory is largely made of glass, including a fully glazed roof and walls. Orangeries are generally better insulated and warmer, making them ideal for year-round use as kitchens, dining rooms, or living spaces. Conservatories, on the other hand, are brighter and more suited to sunrooms or seasonal use, though modern designs can also make them energy-efficient.

Are your orangeries really bespoke?

Yes. Every orangery that we install is designed and installed to meet each customer’s exact specifications. We offer a range of customisation options including frame colour, brick type to match your property, roof style and hardware.

In what areas do you install orangeries?

At Tyneside Home Improvements, we install orangeries across North East England. We serve all the major cities in the area including Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, and Durham. We also work extensively across all towns and villages in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire, and County Durham.

Are orangeries warm in winter?

Yes, modern orangeries are warm in winter. While older conservatories often had a reputation for being cold, today’s orangeries use advanced design and insulation, making them as comfortable and cosy as any other room in your home, even during the coldest months.
