2024’s Spotlight: Explore Trending uPVC Window Styles

March 19, 2024|News

uPVC has become the most common window frame material in modern homes, largely thanks to its durability, energy efficiency, easy cleaning, and affordability.

But beyond these practical benefits, uPVC windows can also elevate the aesthetics of your North East residence.

At Tyneside Home Improvements, we understand that the process of finding the perfect option for your property can be a confusing one, so we’re here to help.

This blog will delve into the hottest modern uPVC window styles of 2024, helping you to make an informed decision that complements both your home’s character and your taste.

But first… What is uPVC? white-upvcbow-windows

uPVC stands for Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride, a strong, rigid, and durable plastic material, commonly used for both windows are doors – the chances are it features somewhere in your North East home.

It’s the most popular choice thanks to several reasons, including its durability, as it’s resistant to weathering (particularly important given the unpredictable Northern weather), ensuring it passes the test of time.

As well as this, it’s very low maintenance especially when compared with wood, or timber frame windows – which often need to be painted or stained, whereas uPVC does not and is also far simpler to clean, only requiring a damp cloth.

uPVC is also a relatively inexpensive material that is energy efficient, which can save you money both during the installation process and on your heating bills further down the line.

 1. Casement Windows

Casement windows aren’t just the most popular window style present in the North East, but the whole of the UK.

They are hinged windows that are installed to either be top-hung, or side-hung, meaning they can open outwards from the top or the side depending on your preferences.

Given their popularity, you almost certainly can’t walk down a Newcastle or Sunderland street without seeing one, though they have gained a reputation for being exclusively white or cream-coloured, which isn’t the case.

Why not make your property stand out from the growing crowd and make the most of our offerings at Tyneside Home Improvements?

As well as the classics such as Black, White, and Cream, we also offer options such as Brilliant Blue, Chartwell Green, or Dark Red to give your home a more contemporary, new-build feel – something that’s very much in fashion in 2024.

2. Tilt & Turn Windows

As the name suggests, a tilt-and-turn window offers two opening mechanisms, tilting and turning – making them a very versatile option for homeowners.

The tilting allows the window to open slightly at the top which is ideal if you want some ventilation, and the turning allows the window to open fully inwards, useful for cleaning the outside.

They’re particularly useful for rooms with less space such as bathrooms but are also becoming more and more popular due to their aesthetic appeal.

Their clean lines and simple functionality make them a good fit for modern or contemporary architecture, and at Tyneside Home Improvements we offer them in several colours, so they can look as vibrant or as subtle as you’d like.

3. Sliding Sash Windows

Sliding sash windows are an elegant addition to any home.

Bringing the quality timber window aesthetic to the North East with the modern benefits of uPVC, they open vertically by sliding one or both sashes up and down in grooves.

Our sliding sash windows are carefully crafted to replicate the appearance of traditional wooden windows but are constructed with uPVC to enjoy all those modern-day benefits mentioned above.

This means you can enjoy all the authentic charm of a classic vertical slider, with perks such as heat retention – as saving money on energy bills is very much a priority in 2024.

4. Flush Sash Windows

The key feature of flash sash windows is that the sash, the moveable frame of a window, sits level with the external frame of the window when closed.

This creates a smooth, uninterrupted look on the outside, fitting beautifully in the modern home, but looking equally attractive in traditional buildings.

Modern flush sash windows from Tyneside Home Improvements can be fitted to make use of several woodgrain foil options, replicating the look of timber options such as Rosewood, Irish Oak, and more.

5. Heritage-Style Windows

Traditional styles are very much in fashion in 2024, with brands such as Jordan, Hornby, and even our nearby Sunderland AFC announcing retro ranges to take advantage of the demand for yesteryear.

If you’re looking to give your home a classic look, like that of a period property, you can with the help of Tyneside Home Improvements, and our heritage-style windows.

Carefully created to mimic traditional window styles, they have a charming style and elegant sightlines, without compromising on all the benefits that come with modern windows.

Our beautiful, low-maintenance uPVC heritage-style windows are available in sliding sash or flush sash styles, as well as a range of colours and different woodgrain finishes, such as Mahogany, Slate Grey, and Natural Oak depending on your personal preference.

6. Double Glazing

Double glazing has become standard for windows across the UK, especially in areas like Newcastle and across the North East.

At Tyneside Home Improvements, our windows come with double glazing as standard, with the option to add triple glazing where required.

The extra pane of glass massively increases a home’s energy performance, significantly reducing heat loss during the cooler months, whilst minimising unwanted noise pollution in the process – and we all know how loud Newcastle can be on a Saturday night…

Our glazing is argon-filled and is available with Low-E coatings for improved thermal efficiency.

7. Triple Glazing

However, if you live in an area in the North East that is particularly cold or noisy (we know of a few), then triple glazing provides an extra layer to provide improved insulation and greater soundproofing.

Triple glazing also minimises condensation on the inside of windows, particularly in the winter months.

It’s also more secure than single or double glazing, with the additional pane of glass enhancing the overall security of your property.

At Tyneside Home Improvements, triple glazing is available on most of our windows and door range, no matter the style of property, be it contemporary/new build or traditional.
